For therapy, the destructive properties of b-particle (electron) emitting radionuclides are used, so that radiation therapy can be targeted by the chosen carrier agent to the site of the disorder or cancer. This facilitates delivery of therapeutic levels of radiation even more selectively than is possible by external beam therapy.
